PINE HONEY

Pine tree honey is what we call a honeydew of forest honey. It is produced by bees that collect honeydew (sugary secretions) from a scale insect species called Marchallina hellenica, which lives on the bark of certain pine trees. In this case, bees gather nectar from honeydew excreted by the insects of Marchallina hellenica.

Most of honeydew honey boasts stronger antioxidant than the floral varieties. The reason for this is because they contain high levels of flavonoids and phenolic compounds.

A 2007 study looked at the differences between nectar and honeydew honey. The conclusion was that honeydew honey are better that nectar honey! Researches also, found that Greek pine honey to be better than all others with regards to its strong antibacterial properties. It  exerted antibacterial effects against the following  bacterium: Coli, Marcescens, Sphaericus, Epidermidis, Subtilis 

Pine tree honey has a full-bodied yet quite pleasant flavor that is suggestive of pine sap. This is also one of those honey that makes perfect and much healthier alternative to table sugar. It is particularly nice when taken with black teas.

Pine honey has anti- inflammatory properties, it’s antioxidant, immunostimulant, cleanser, helps in the cure of some bacterial, dermatological, degenerative, inflammatory and autoimmune deseases.

When used externally it is beneficial for wounds and anti-rheumatic deseases.

Το μέλι πεύκου παράγεται από μέλισσες που συλλέγουν μελίτωμα, από τις εκκρίσεις του εντόμου Marchallina hellenica, το οποίο ζει στο φλοιό ορισμένων πεύκων. Συλλέγεται στα πευκοδάση της Βόρειας Εύβοιας. Το μέλι πεύκου έχει αντιφλεγμονώδεις ιδιότητες, είναι αντιοξειδωτικό, ανοσοδιεγερτικό, καθαριστικό, βοηθά στη θεραπεία ορισμένων βακτηριακών, δερματολογικών, εκφυλιστικών, φλεγμονωδών  παθήσεων.

Τα μέλια μελιτωμάτων διαθέτουν περισσότερους αντιοξειδωτικούς παράγοντες από τις ποικιλίες ανθέων. Ο λόγος που συμβαίνει αυτό είναι επειδή περιέχουν υψηλά επίπεδα φλαβονοειδών και φαινολικών ενώσεων.
